Michael Schwallie 43 (far right) who is autistic, at the Sobolevitch House in Robbinsville, NJ., on Saturday December 4, 2005. The Sobolevitch House, was one of Eden's first group home and has been home to Michael for more then 20 years. Michael sits and stares off into space while his roommate Brian Freeman walks around the house. Autism was relatively not known at the time Michael was diagnosed around the age of 4 1/2. In fact, his pediatrician in Cleveland, Ohio accused Michael's parents for "creating an angry child" and giving no "consistency" in the parenting of young Michael. Michael who has 5 other siblings, has a younger brother with Asperger's syndrome which is similar to autism Autism is on the rise in America and it is estimated that 1.5 million Americans are afflicted with the neurological disorder. There is no known cure for autism nor no known origin. Those families afflicted with the disease, have a greater chance of having a child with some form of autism.
